Holy cow...I'm pregnant!! Yikes is all I can say right now. I never expected that second line to actually show up on the test! Why did I take the test then? Well, Breanne encouraged me to take one since I was telling her that I may have missed my period (although I've always been irregular), I had just realized I probably had implantation spotting last week (it never occurred to me at the time), and I just felt guilt each time I had a drink. So I took Breanne's advice, went to Rite-Aid on Roll and Transit, and very nervously bought a test. I was most nervous that I would run into someone I knew. Since I really hadn't planned on taking a test, I didn't even tell Todd.
When I got home I went right upstairs, dipped the stick, put the cap on, and watched as the first line showed up (I thought it was just an indicator line to show the test was working) and then I saw a faint line show up. So I was waiting for the second line to show up when it hit me that there were already two lines! And there is was...I AM PREGNANT!
I kind of didn't know what to do, so I brought it downstairs, put it on our temporary kitchen table, and went outside to find Todd. There he was spraying the weeping snow fountain for bugs. I said to him, "When you get a chance, come inside." He said, "Why?" I said, "I need to tell, I mean show, you something." I must have worried him that I had broken something because he said, "Just tell me." So I went on to tell Todd that I bought the test, took it, and we're expecting. His immediate reaction was saying, "Congratulations!" So I said back to him, "Congratulations to you too." Since we were both in initial shock our congratulatory hug didn't happen until we got into the garage.
I then had to call Breanne to tell her too - we both couldn't believe it! But she confirmed that two lines was YES and that false positives are VERY rare. That night we told Alysia, Mom, John, & Gram. Alysia shouted, Mom thought I was kidding (because we just found out two days prior that DJ and April were pregnant too!), and Gram cried.
Baby's Development (from Pregnancy.org)
- First heartbeats begin - If you have an early ultrasound you may not be able to recognize this tiny being as a baby, but there is no mistaking what it feels like seeing your child's heartbeat on that screen. That rhythmic beat is echoed in your own heart.
- Umbilical cord develops - This is your baby's lifeline in utero. It bears the responsibility of pumping in oxygen, removing waste, and supplying the necessary nutrients for the remainder of your pregnancy.
- Blood is now pumping - All four heart chambers are now functioning, insuring your baby's body will receive all it needs over not only the remainder of your pregnancy but throughout life.
- Most other organs begin to develop - Your infant's lungs start to appear, along with her brain. Already your little one is preparing for a quest for lifelong learning!
- Arm and leg buds appear - While they may not appear to be much at this stage it is ok to dream of the future. Just imagine your ballerina twirling and jumping around your kitchen floor. Or perhaps you will have the precocious boy that throws the perfect pitch -- right through the neighbor's window.
